About the Department


The Department of Commerce was started in the year 1982 due to the popularity of Commerce Course among women students. With the passage of time, the department has grown by leaps and bounds. To gain competitive advantage in the job market, B.Com (Computer Applications) was introduced during the year 1998 - 1999 as a Vocational Course (approved by the UGC). To meet the heavy demand for B.Com (CA). Course, it was also introduced as a Self-Finance Course during the year 2000 – 2001.

With the focus of providing higher education to rural women students, M.Com with PG Diploma in E-Commerce was introduced in the year 1999 - 2000. From the academic year 2008 - 2009, M.Com with E-Commerce was renamed as M.Com (CA). During the year 2021-2022, M.Com (CA) was converted into M.Com. With the aim of undertaking rigorous research work in the field of commerce, our department has been upgraded into a Research Centre during the academic year 2004 – 2005 and produced 99 M.Phil scholars so far.

The department provides ample opportunities to the students to keep abreast with the expanding knowledge through participating in seminars, workshops, conferences and symposiums on topics of current relevance.

       The department has produced a number of rank holders in UG, PG and M.Phil. Many state level and national level seminars, conferences, workshops and special lectures by eminent scholars have been organized by our department to create academic ambience..

Department Highlights


The department focuses both academic and extracurricular activities for the overall development of the students.


v  Highly qualified and experienced staff members with broad areas of specialization including taxation, accounting, marketing, auditing, C and C++, python, image editing processing, tally and so on

v  Well equipped computer lab with internet facility.

v  To keep our students updated of the current requirements, the department has actively engaged in seminar, workshops, conferences and webinars.

v  Guest lectures are organized on the subject related topics

v  We wish our students to contribute in social activities like creating awareness among consumerism, procuring green products, etc.,

v  To develop entrepreneurial skill among the students Commerce Bazaarwas organized by the department, under the name of “MY IDEA AND MY PRODUCT”

v  Career awareness programmes is provided to the students for future job market.

v  Intra department competition “COM FEST”isorganized to bring out inner potential of the studentsand to develop a spirit of fair competition among them.

v  Provides a competitive platform to differently able students in memory of our old student‘BABY SHALINI”.

v  Certificate course offered “Tally Accounting Software” to enhance the employability skills of the students.

v  The students are motivated to go internship and industrial visitsin various sectors with an aim to go beyond academics, for gaining practical experience in real life situations in the areas of marketing, accounting, auditing and sales.

v  For slow learners, extra care is taken by the faculty to push forward in academics by handling remedial classes.

v  To encourage advanced learners by providing extra text books and special guidance.Advanced learners provided required academic support in order to secure as university rank holders.

v  Our faculty members have published many papers in state, national and international conferences and journals

v  Faculty members  are involved in mentoring the students to solve grievances by counseling.

v  Our students have been employed in both private and public sectors; and some of them have chosen professional courses.

v  Department library has more than 1000 books where faculty and students can take the books for reference.

    Ø  Organised more than 100 seminars, conferences, symposium and workshops so far.
