About the Department


Department of Botany has been established on June 1971. It is noted for good academic record and devoted service of the staff members for the welfare of the students. Our department is targeting mainly on the academically poor students and helps them to gain good academic status. And gained many University ranks including I and II ranks ,our students have emerged up and are holding higher posts in medical ,Judicial, Revenue teaching , research scholars and in various other reputed departments. A greater Co- ordination among the faulty members is the strength of our department. With the duty conscious and deeply devoted staff members we are maintaining a standard for Botany department in our esteemed institution.

Department  Vision:

    ·         To upgrade the Department into Research Centre.
·         To start PG Diploma courses.
·         To motivate the students in the research field.
·         To mould the students into good citizens.

Department Mission:

     ·         To focus the areas on Entrepreneurial scope for Botanists.
·         To create awareness about the Environment, Bioethics and Biodiversity Conservation.
·         To update the students with advanced technologies in the field of science.
·         To train them in academic research work through projects, internships and seminars.

                   To expose the students in various fields of Botany.

 Highlights

·         Conducting National Seminars and State Level Workshops regularly.

·         Our Department maintaining Herbal Garden with various medicinal plants in green house.

·         The students in our department are given hands on training on Self Employment Programmes like Mushroom cultivation and Azolla cultivation.

·         Students projects are done by visiting paper mill, tea factory , chocolate factories, Siddha clinic , etc

 

Future Plan

·         To start Diploma and certificate course in tissue culture and mushroom technology.

·         To open interdisciplinary research Laboratory.

·         Overall improvement of Department infrastructure.

·         To offer high quality training Programmes to the needy industries, agricultural sectors and collaborators.
