About the Department

The Department of Economics was started since the inception of our college, as an ancillary department and it has evolved as a full-fledged Under Graduate Programme from the academic year 1986-87. The Department has successfully organized academic meetings, seminars and workshops to increase the horizon of knowledge and also it inculcates research culture. Seven books have been published by the members of the faculty. The students have secured 50 ranks in Madurai Kamaraj University and 11 ranks in Mother Teresa Women’s University.It adds feathers to our academic excellence.The Department undertakes socially relevant projects under extension activities.

Highlights

  • Recently National level seminar on the theme “Economic Crisis- a threat to developing economies” and State Level workshop on “Career Guidance for Economics graduates” have been organized.
  • Society oriented research projects are undertaken by the department.
  • ECOTALENTIA – a programme exclusively for students of economics is conducted every year to promote the skills of the students. The programme gives ample scope for development of leadership qualities and organizing skill. competitions of various types such as paper presentation, album making, wealth from waste, slogan writing and Essay writing, oratorical competitions, Solo song, Slogan, Verse writing, turn coat, drawing, , Ad act, debate, mime, character alive and drama are conducted to enhance their skill and to test their understanding and application of subject concepts.
  • Students achievements in Co-curricular and Extra-curricular Activities.
    • One student Participated in all India NCC Girls Trekking Expedition at Duttnagar.
    • 3 players from our department are placed in the college Kabaddi team and Participated in 20 Kabaddi tournaments.
    • Students participate in National and State level Seminars / Workshops.
  • Our Alumnae are placed in private and public sectors.
